High Water in Late April

With so much rain this spring, the river has been over its banks at least three times. But these two spans are holding, anchored by metal fence posts and cedar logs. But even in the gloomiest of weather, when the time is right, the birds and blossoms stay their course. Today down in the flooded marsh, I heard the year's first Common Yellowthroats. And up on the slope, the year's first blossoms are the Wood Anemone. The Rose-breasted Grosbeaks showed up yesterday. The Thrashers arrived five days ago, and they always jazz up the place.
