These are all from March 9, when the floodwaters reached their highest level in our experience here this year. A couple of days before the 9th, the snowmelt formed a small river flowing across the backyard at three miles an hour and forming ripples. At the center of the photo of the cedars is the twisted trunk of the largest wild grape vine I've seen in North America (which is to say I drank a glass of wine under a larger one in Germany in 1976). The cedar grove is one of Alison's favorite places because of the "quicksand."
